That Sick Feeling again

In a bizarre reversal of all their commitment to human rights and the struggle of men and women for independence and self-determination, the European Left has chosen again and again to side with the bullies and to condemn a small nation struggling to survive in a hostile neighborhood. It is all self-contradictory: The Left supports gay rights, yet attacks the only country in the Middle East where gay rights are enshrined in law. Hamas makes death the punishment for being gay, but "we are all Hamas now." Iran hangs gays, but it is praised as an agent of anti-imperialism, and allowed to get on with its job of stoning women and executing dissidents and members of religious minorities. If UK Premier Gordon Brown swore to wipe France from the face of the earth, he would become a pariah among nations. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad threatens to do that to Israel and is invited to speak to the UN General Assembly

Israel guarantees civil liberties to all its citizens, Jew or Arab alike, but it is dubbed "an apartheid state"; Hamas, ever the bully, kills its opponents and denies the rest the most basic rights, but we march on behalf of Hamas. The Left prefers the bully because the bully represents a finger in the face of the establishment? Almost no one on the Left has any understanding of militant Islam. Their politics is a politics of gesture, where wearing a keffiyeh is cool but understanding its symbolism is too much effort even for intellectuals.

Well, my favorite picture site is The Big Picture at bostonglobe.com. It's really a photojournalism blog, but they put up in large format absolutely stunning pictures that the paper wouldn't have room for. Some of the pictures from the Inauguration, especially the satellite shots, were just jaw-dropping. Click the link.

...like the time Han Solo and others hid the Millenium Falcon inside the cave on that asteroid and it turned out not to be an asteroid. Is it 2009 or 1934? Melbourne, or Munich?

The Age‘s elevated shot doesn’t reveal such fascinating detail. AAP merely describes people “carrying placards calling for an end to what was described as a ‘massacre’”. Meanwhile, in Paris:

Vandals hurled Molotov cocktails at a synagogue in a Paris suburb yesterday in the latest outbreak of anti-Semitic violence in France since the start of Israel’s Gaza offensive …

Home to Europe’s biggest Muslim and Jewish populations, France has recorded more than 55 anti-Semitic incidents since Israel launched its Gaza offensive last month, drawing appeals for calm from politicians and religious leaders. Three other synagogues have been firebombed in the past two weeks and vandals have sprayed anti-Israeli graffiti on at least two other Jewish places of worship.

Jews haven’t been so vilified since Islamists attacked the US on 9/11.

San Francisco Holocaust Memorial Vandalized

Very nasty activity going on in the Golden Gate city.

The San Francisco Holocaust Memorial was vandalized yesterday for the third time in recent months.
Vandals spraypainted in red, "Israel there is blood on your hands," on the memorial.

The vandal also spraypainted red on the hands of the figures.
Marooned in Marin reported, via LGF.

Witnesses say they saw a man on Monday spraying red paint on the memorial, located near the city's scenic Legion of Honor museum.

Police say the tagger wore a white bandanna, carried a black messenger bag and fled in a car waiting nearby. Police did not describe the content of the graffiti, which city officials said was removed Tuesday.

City director of cultural affairs, Luis Cancel, said removing the graffiti costs between $6,000 and $8,000.

This is the second time sinc November that the memorial has been vandalized.

In November vandals drew swastikas on the figures in the memorial.

KTVU says police have surveillance video of the hooligan committing the crime.
